Summary and Best Practices for Installing Updates (Multi-Store)

In a multi-store environment with transfers, it is important to follow this checklist:

 

1.  Always plan an update when you have time to finish it without interruption.

2.  You cannot use The Edge at all until the update is complete.

3.  Plan an update accordingly - all stores MUST be on the same version or the transfers may fail.

4.  Sync up all stores before you begin updates.

5.  Disable transfers.  A transfer during the database update could corrupt the database.

6.  Backup your data.

7.  Download the update.

8.  Install the update on the server in each store first.

9.  Start The Edge on the server in each store and upgrade the database.

10. Install the update on the workstation in each store.

11. Start The Edge on each workstation and verify successful installation.

12. Re-enable transfers.

13. Do a test sync to make sure all databases are synced up after the update.

 

All computers at all store locations must be updated to the same version before using The Edge.  In most cases, the update can be launched directly from The Edge Help Menu.
