The Edge makes extensive use of barcodes throughout the program and for this reason we strongly recommend getting a barcode scanner. You will find barcodes useful for both maintaining inventory (physical inventory or restocking items previously in the system) and for various actions conducted at the Point of Sale window (selling items, accepting gift cards, etc.). Most modern barcode scanners that support reading interleaved 2-of-5 symbology at a 5-mil density will be compatible with the barcodes generated by The Edge software.
If you purchased your scanner directly from Abbott Jewelry Systems, Inc., it will have been programmed and tested before shipping; therefore, you need only plug in the scanner to start working with it. If you purchased your scanner elsewhere, it will need to be programmed. Programming documents for common scanner models can be found in the Hardware Documents section of our community website (www.edgeuser.com).
