Occasionally, after many years, it might be useful to purge your production database of old data. As your database comes close to capacity, you will receive warnings and options to upgrade your technology. Alternatively, the database trimming tool is used only by The Edge Technical Support team. If you receive a number of warning messages about your database size, this may be an option. Contact The Edge Technical Support Team for assistance.
To help you decide, it may help to know how the trimmer works. The database trimmer removes idle customer records; that is those with no activity for a specified period of time. The database trimmer will not remove customers who have the following:
•Special orders
•Appraisals
•Rewards cards
•Coupons
•Memo Outs
•Gift Certificates
•Store Charges
•Layaways.
Non-customer records that are deleted from the database include:
•Sales from the database before the specified date that do not tie back to another sale (like a return)
•Items sold before the specified date
•Repairs entered before the specified date
•Stones for items that are sold before the specified date
•Sale associate records for the deleted sales
•Sale lines for the sales that were being deleted
•Item history where the latest item history update date is before the specified date
•GL entries for everything before January first of the year before the current year.
•Repairs before the specified date
•Repair history for the repairs before the specified date
•Repair envelopes for the repairs that were deleted
•Bulk physical inventory count history.
